This program is an amalgam of gorgeous soundscapes. For his only opera Fidelio, Beethoven penned four overtures, dramatic in different ways. The Fidelio Overture, his final attempt, opens with sprightly gestures and is the standard opening to the opera today. Filled with poetic and romantic eloquence, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3 is a prime example of the composer’s classical elegance. Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.4 came into being because the composer was enchanted by Italy’s natural beauty and stimulating culture.
