HIGHLIGHT

These four works from different nations celebrate cultural difference: Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture ripples with youthful energy and festive delight in typical Austro-German flair. Written the same year, Dvořák’s Symphony No.6 reveals traces of Brahms’s influence yet remains undeniably Bohemian. Both Italian composer Pasculli’s work based on bel canto composer Donizetti’s La Favorita and French composer Françaix’s L’horloge de Flore are virtuosic displays that put any oboist to the test.
