National Games opening ceremony hailed as fusion of cultural strengths across regions

In a dazzling tribute to heritage and innovation, Sunday’s opening ceremony at China’s 15th National Games captivated audiences under the theme “Shared Roots, Shared Heart, Shared Dream.”

The event in Guangzhou was structured in three segments, intertwining the rich cultural legacy and modern spirit of the Greater Bay Area through a combination of music, dance and cutting-edge digital technology.

Chen Qing, President of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, lauded the gala as a profound fusion of cultural strengths across the region.

“The symphony ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area is exceptionally vibrant, with each of the four core cities boasting an internationally renowned orchestra,” he said.

Chen highlighted the collaboration among the Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao orchestras, which he believes exemplifies the joint development of culture and the arts across this dynamic area.

One of the most stirring moments of the opening ceremony featured a robotic arm striking an ancient ‘Goudiao’ instrument, producing a sound the orchestra boss described as reverberating through more than 2,000 years of history.

Chen praised the “exceptional creative concept” as a collision of past and future, calling the integration of robotics and ancient instruments “remarkably ingenious.”
