Yun Zeng is currently principle soloist in Of French horn of Berlin Philharmonic.

Addressed by Maestro Valery Gergiev as ‘a wonderful horn player’ and ‘the biggest surprise of the competition’ at the gala concert of the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, Yun Zeng, a 19-year-old gold medalist in the new brass category has become a rising star of today’s musical world. In September 2021, Yun Zeng received the second prize in the celebrated 70th ARD International Music Competition Horn Competition in Munich. Besides, he was the laureate of 12 major international competitions including Prague Spring (2018), Città di Porcia (2017) and Lieksa (2016)

As a soloist, Yun Zeng has performed some of the most renowned French horn repertoire with World Orchestra for Peace (founded by Maestro Georg Solti), Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , Mariinsky Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal,Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra (as Artist-in-Residence in the Season 2020-2021), Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Xi’an Symphony Orchestra,Sichuan Symphony Orchestra and Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra, and conductors Valery Gergiev, Christopher Eschenbach, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Yu Feng, Zhang Guoyong, Lü Jia, Lin Daye, Chen Lin, Yu Lu, Li Biao. Some of his performances have been broadcast by China Central Television, All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company and Medici.tv.

Born into a musical family in the year of 1999, Yun Zeng began learning French horn with his father, Jie Zeng, principal horn player of Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, at the age of 6. He was both times the first place in major assessment when admitted to the middle school as well as undergraduate studies of Central Conservatory of Music in 2011 and 2017 respectively, in the class of prof. Quan Wen. During this period, he was funded by ‘Best of the Best Project’ (2012 until now) – a program designed by the conservatory especially for talented young musicians, and ‘Edifier Musician Foundation’ (2014). In academic year 2019-2020, he was studying in Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève ,supported by Erasmus Project, with prof. Bruno Schneider.

Since 2014, his instrument was sponsored by BRIZ Musical Instrument Ltd., now he is playing the ‘BRIZ 2000TP’ horn.
