This concert may celebrate Johann Sebastian Bach, a giant in music history, but it is not a conventional, Baroque-style “all-Bach program.” Rather, new interpretations and orchestral adaptations attest to how musicians of later generations recast the master’s music with their own imprints. Such arrangements are most serious artistic tributes. Counterpoint is key in Bach’s output, no matter whether in his toccatas, passacaglias, chaconnes or keyboard concertos. Symphony orchestras can deliver a much fuller sound and more delineated voice parts, as proven in the Stokowski and Respighi arrangements. Conductor Hansjörg Albrecht also contributes his adaptation of a Bach keyboard concerto for the modern piano.
