This program focuses on youthful works by Tchaikovsky and Chopin, both known for beautiful melodies now etched in the memory of generations of music lovers. Tchaikovsky was fond of his first symphony. Even late in his life, he wrote: “Although it is in many ways very immature, yet fundamentally it has more substance and is better than many of my other more mature works.” Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1, completed before the composer left his native Poland, is filled with graceful nuances evoking not only love and romance, but sensibility and patriotism.
