Born into a family of musicians, Augustin Dumay became familiar to concert audiences in France at an early age. His international career took off after his appearances with Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to his international career as a violinist, he is also very active as a conductor both on stage and in recordings. Among his frequent collaborators are the English Chamber Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia and New Japan Philharmonic. He was Music Director, then Principal Guest Conductor, of the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia (Belgium). As Music Director, he has led the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra (Osaka, Japan) to perform in concert halls and festivals in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. His recordings for Deutsche Grammophon have earned him a reputation among international critics as a “great classical stylist.”
