The GSO Brilliant Brass Quintet was formed in March 2009. In November 2009, they participated in the 7th China Music Golden Bell Awards Chamber Music (Brass Quintet) Competition and won the gold medal and the “Chinese Works Performance Award”.

They have been invited to participate in the “2010 Lantern Festival Gala” hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Culture at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. They have been also invited to perform at the National Day reception at the Chinese Embassy in Canberra and give a live performance in the BBC Radio 3 Friday evening “In Tune”.

Since its establishment, the GSO Brilliant Brass Quintet has been attracting music lovers with various works and performances. The artistic propositions the ensemble presents make the audience feel different and wonderful. With hundreds of performances, the GSO Brilliant Brass Quintet has won great praises from all walks of life.

In 2019, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the GSO Brilliant Brass Quintet, the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra produced and published “GSO Brilliant Brass Quintet 10th Anniversary” album. This album has a variety of genres, covering classical, jazz and Chinese elements. It is worth mentioning that the ninth work included in the album, “Shadow Catcher”, is a large-scale work of brass quintet and symphony orchestra that is very rare to hear in recordings or live concerts. The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra not only performed the work (Asian premiere) at the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou on November 19, 2017 by the famous Chinese conductor Zhang Guoyong, it also included the live recording of the concert into this album.
