Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy-Overture Romeo and Juliet launched his career. The orchestral piece has long been praised as a work perfectly capturing the romance of young lovers against the background of their respective clans’ enmity. While writing his Symphony No.5, Tchaikovsky was devastated by the deaths both of a dear friend and his niece, but his music reflects a positivity vis-à-vis the harsh realities of fate.
