Now a classic of Spanish guitar music, Joaquín Rodrigo’s modern masterpiece Concierto de Aranjuez is tinged with old-world pathos captured in mesmerizing melodies. As a milestone of 20th-century American orchestral repertoire, Copland’s Symphony No.3 incorporates both vernacular and modernist techniques, expressing a universal sentiment and optimistic national spirit after the Second World War.
