In 1756, the world welcomed a musical genius in the name of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. To commemorate classical music’s beloved icon, this program features three works from three different genres. The overture to his opera Così fan tutte is light and humorous, graceful and dynamic. Four wind instruments share the limelight in the Sinfonia Concertante, engaging in a veritable dialogue among musical “friends.” Mozart’s final symphony, nicknamed “Jupiter,” bears testament to tremendous control and fanciful counterpoint throughout its four movements; it is celebrated as the composer’s swansong (before his untimely death) and grand statement at the peak of the classical genre.
