True to its name, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 is a grandiose gesture befitting an “Emperor” as we pay tribute to the classical master. In contrast, the first half of the concert features Berlioz’s beautiful vocal suite originally inspired by the composer’s obsession with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This romantic song suite is a perfect vehicle for the best of the best mezzo-sopranos.
