HIGHLIGHT

Li Mengneng’s Sun Dunhuang was inspired by the epic poem Sun. Although the work is built upon the foundation of serious music in terms of concept and contemporary technique, it also incorporates traditional or popular music elements, with familiar melodic turns and harmonic progressions. Barber’s Cello Concerto stems from the conservative strand in 20th-century American music and is distinguished by song-like melodies. Zhou Tian’s Concerto for Orchestra is at once innovative and traditional, wielding the powerful impact of modernism yet possessing a lilting romanticism,It was nominated for the 60th Grammy Award for “Best Contemporary Classical Music Composer”, and Zhou Tian is the first Chinese composer to receive this honour.
